Morning Report – Tuesday 27th April

FTSE to open at 6,970 (+7 pts)

It’s been another very quiet Asian session and feels like the calm before the storm ahead of this weeks big earnings releases and Wednesday’s Fed statement.

Today we have Google and Microsoft reporting…

Google had a very strong end to 2020 as an unexpected surge of advertising lifted revenues far above Wall Street forecasts. The market will be looking for this momentum to be maintained.

For Microsoft, a boom in PC sales, surging demand for video-gaming and increased usage of cloud services are expected to drive up revenues.

Regency Risk Barometer Snapshot

FTSE futures have crept back above the New Year highs during the Asian session, but whether this can me maintained remains to be seen.

With large-cap heavyweights HSBC and BP reporting earnings today, these stocks and their impact on sector sentiment is likely to set the tone for today’s trading.
