Morning Report – Thursday 29th April

FTSE to open at 6,975 (+12 pts)

US stocks remained muted as the Fed delivered a brighter economic outlook while simultaneously remaining unmoved from its current dovish policy stance.

President Joe Biden’s congress speech confirmed his $1.8tn plan to invest in America, funded by raising the capital gains rate for the wealthy, but there were no surprises for the market.

Asian stocks have had a bullish session and US futures have broken to new highs overnight. With this backdrop, we’d expect to see a strong start to European trading.

S&P 500-0.08%Neutral for UK stocks
Hang Seng+0.61%Bullish for UK stocks
Gold-0.02%Neutral for UK stocks
AUD/JPY+0.20%Neutral for UK stocks
US 10yr Yield+1.10%Neutral for UK stocks
Regency Risk Barometer Snapshot

The FTSE has moved above the New Year highs at 6,961, but in rather unconvincing fashion…

We’ll be looking for momentum to increase at the open and for prices to retest their mid-April swing highs a 7,041.
