Morning Report – Thursday 28th October

FTSE to open at 7,246 (-7 pts)

The S&P moved lower yesterday despite bumper earnings from Microsoft and Google parent Alphabet. Energy stocks were the biggest losers as oil prices retreated from their recent highs.

Overnight in Asia, stocks have had a quiet session with Hong Kong and Japanese benchmarks in small negative territory on the day.

Looking ahead, we have a stacked corporate and economic calendar with the ECB’s rate decision and policy statement along with key earnings updates from the likes of Lloyds and Royal Dutch Shell.

S&P 500-0.51%Bearish for UK stocks
Hang Seng-0.10%Neutral for UK stocks
Gold+0.34%Bearish for UK stocks
AUD/JPY-0.29%Bearish for UK stocks
US 10yr Yield-4.18%Bullish for UK stocks
Regency Risk Barometer Snapshot

The FTSE tread water near it’s breakout highs yesterday – forming its narrowest daily range in over seven sessions.

So long as the pullback remains low volatility in nature, we would expect to see upside continuation.
