Morning Report – Tuesday 23rd March
FTSE to open at 6,681 (-45 pts)
European stocks are set for a weak open as Chinese markets were hit by a new round of sanctions…
According to Reuters – the United States and others, including the European Union, sanctioned Chinese officials on Monday over human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and Beijing hit back with punitive measures against European lawmakers, diplomats, institutes and families.
However, our risk barometer shows that it’s not all bad news for stocks. The S&P put in a solid move higher yesterday, and with bond yields dropping back, the markets inflationary fears will be subsiding.
S&P 500 | +0.70% | Bullish for UK stocks |
Hang Seng | -1.40% | Bearish for UK stocks |
Gold | +0.01% | Neutral for UK stocks |
AUD/JPY | -0.70% | Bearish for UK stocks |
US 10yr Yield | -1.77% | Bullish for UK stocks |
For the second consecutive session the FTSE rallied back from a weak start to close back above 6,705 support.
Whilst this is a sign of strength, the futures have drifted back below support and the FTSE will once again need to mount an intra-day fightback.
