Morning Report – Friday 24th December
FTSE to open at (-12 pts)
US stocks edged towards record highs yesterday as promising data from South Africa, Denmark and UK helped offset fears surrounding the spread of Omicron.
Asian markets were largely mixed in thin trade, while ‘risk on’ Asian-Pacific currencies gain ground against the dollar.
The London Stock Exchange closes at 12:30pm UK time, allowing plenty of time to fit in some last minute Christmas shopping!
S&P 500 | +0.62% | Bullish for UK stocks |
Hang Seng | +0.13% | Neutral for UK stocks |
Gold | +0.27% | Bearish for UK stocks |
AUD/JPY | +0.07% | Neutral for UK stocks |
US 10yr Yield | +2.89% | Bearish for UK stocks |
After a Grinch-like Monday, the ‘Santa rally’ (a historic tendency for markets to rally in the week before Christmas) finally arrived and markets have been driven back to their November, pre-Omicron highs.
We don’t expect much movement today given the FTSE’s reduced trading hours and the cluster of bank holidays that await.
